Making of a Mural
The Basics: Mural painting can be a short or lengthy process depending on
the size and detail desired. When possible, and if you need something to better
fit your budget, I allow clients/volunteers to assist in prep work and painting
background colors. This not only saves you, your church, or your school money, but
it also gives those involved a sense of “ownership” by being able to say, “Look!
This is the mural I helped paint!”
Free Consultation: I will be more than happy to visit your home, business,
church, daycare, etc., for a free consultation, take measurements, and gather information
to present a full color drawing of the proposed mural, along with a written contract
spelling out all the work to be done. You can present this proposal to your staff/spouse//boss/Board
of Directors before making a decision to go forward with the work.
Preparation and Execution: Prepping the wall with a primer starts first,
then I sketch out the basic drawing with charcoal or watercolor pencils. Next comes
painting in the basic background colors (this is when volunteers can step in). Then,
depending on the mural, I use sponges and brushes to paint the subject matter. Lastly,
I use my airbrush to add soft details, shadows, highlights, etc. I can make the
mural look simple and cartoonish, detailed and lifelike, or somewhere in-between.
