Artist's Bio
I’ve been a doodler since elementary school, but didn’t discover I could paint until
enrolling in a basic art class my senior year at Surrattsville High School in Clinton,
MD. My first painting was a tempera still life of daffodils and geraniums in a basket,
and garnered a second place ribbon in my first juried art show. I also learned calligraphy
and other art techniques under the direction of my beloved art teacher, Jane Wingard.
After graduating in 1985, I enrolled in additional art classes: Drawing 101 at Prince
George’s Community College, Largo, MD; private oil painting lessons in Dale City,
VA; Basic Acrylic Painting at Montgomery County Community College, Silver Spring,
MD; and Advanced Painting Classes at the Bemis School of Art in Colorado Springs,
CO; where I currently teach art classes. I attend open drawing studios at Cottonwood
Artists’ School every chance I get.
I mainly work with acrylics, but can also use watercolors, oils, pastels, charcoal
drawings, and pen & ink drawings, as well as the airbrush.
